School Fuel, the Novato Foundation for Public Education, is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation formed in 2003 to develop a strong and long-lasting education foundation to support and enrich the education available to all students in Novato public schools. School Fuel was incorporated as a California non-profit corporation on March 7, 2003 and received tax exempt status on November 3, 2003. School Fuel’s goal is to be an organized, inclusive local education foundation (LEF) that can improve community support for all Novato students in public education K-12.
Since its inception, School Fuel has provided over $1.7 million dollars from over 1900 different donors.
- That list includes more than 185 different business donors.
- School Fuel’s donation to the Novato schools in 2013 was $238,529.
- All of the money donated has been used to fund enhancement programs, teacher and staff positions, and equipment for students.
- School Fuel divides its program money equitably between all of the schools in the Novato public school district.
During the current and prior school years, School Fuel has funded music, art, drama, architecture, algebra, and physical education classes. These classes enriched students’ educational experiences, and also resulted in smaller class sizes and increased support for teachers.
School Fuel has also funded teacher training and equipment to support a new science curriculum, as well as two part-time librarians and a ‘school-to-career’ counselor.
